  What You Need to Know About the Grosse Ile Bridge Closure If you live on or near Grosse Ile, you’ve likely heard the news: the Grosse Ile Parkway Bridge (commonly known as the “Free Bridge”)  will be officially closed for repairs — and yes, it’s going to shake things up for daily commuters, residents, and anyone doing business on the island. So, What’s Happening? Wayne County will close the Grosse Ile Parkway Bridge May 1, 2025 to begin necessary rehabilitation work. This project, aimed at maintaining the safety and longevity of the bridge, will be underway for a eight weeks. As of now, the estimated reopening date is early Summer, but of course, that’s subject to change depending on weather and construction progress. What Does This Mean for You? With the Free Bridge out of commission, all vehicle traffic will need to use the Grosse Ile Toll Bridge — which means potential delays during peak hours.
